Nha Trang

The Diving Capital

Nha Trang

The coastal city of Nha Trang, in Khanh Hoa Province in southcentral Vietnam, lies on the trans-Vietnam highway, 1,278km south of Hanoi, and 448km away from Ho Chi Minh City. For many years, Nha Trang has had a reputation as Vietnam’s diving capital. All along the main beachfront road, Tran Phu, there are bars, restaurants, and dive shops, catering to travelers who have come to surf and dive in the azure waters. Nha Trang is endowed with deep, quiet and warm waters all year round, surrounded by archipelagoes, islands, mountains and white-sand beaches. To the north of Nha Trang stands the Hon Chong rocks and far offshore, Yen Island has lush green surroundings, where salangane nests have been harvested for many years to make traditional “birds’ nest tonic” and food. The 7km white-sand beach of Nha Trang is often called Vietnam’s Mediterranean area. Nha Trang is sunny all year round, with an average temperature of 23°C due to northerly winds. The rainfall is less than anywhere else in the country and the area is not threatened by storms since it is protected by the Truong Son Mountains and Ca Pass.

Cycling tours are among the best (and healthiest) ways to explore Nha Trang’s beautiful countryside, pristine waterfalls, and verdant mountains. The cycling route passes Nha Trang’s vast paddy fields, waterfalls, rural villages, and iconic landmarks such as Alexandre Yersin’s Tomb and Bai Ho Waterfalls. While there are plenty of bicycle tour operators in Nha Trang, the most popular one is Vietnam Active, which also offers yoga, rafting, and kayaking.

Highly recommended is the Thap Ba Hot Springs Centre which is a 15-minute drive from Nha Trang.
