Phu Quoc ( some people call The Pearl), is the largest Island of Vietnam, along with Tho Chu Islands, belong to the authority of Kien Giang Province. Phu Quoc, as well as 21 other islets, are in the Gulf of Thailand. The total area of Phu Quoc is about 589 square meters, equivalent to the total area of Singapore. The population of Phu Quoc is estimated to be around 100.000 people. Duong Dong ( old name of French’s colony including Vietnam-Lao-Cambodia) town, is located to the west of Phu Quoc, is the administrative and also the largest town of the Island.

1. Dao Hon Thom

Located far to the south of Phu Quoc, Dao Hon Thom is a famous Islet. Right here during the dried season, you can involve in snorkeling activity to capture the glamorous corals, and to witness the fishing village to experience the marines life cultivation. There is a well-known squid village that is only 10 minutes by boat from Dao Hon Thom.

2. Bai Sao

Bai Sao- the spotlight, the A-list of the best beach on Phu Quoc. It is a prerequisite to visit Bai Sao once you arrive at the Island. The sand of Bai Sao has a creampie color and ranges up to 7 kilometers. This is the most crowded beach in the area so if you want to experience the crystal clear water during the peak season, make sure that you would show up early. At Bai Sao, there are a plethora of activities that you can join such as kayaking, swimming, sunbathing, and snorkeling.

3. Mui Ganh Dau

Located to the North of Phu Quoc, about 20 kilometers away from Duong Dong town, this area is still quite isolated. Mui Ganh Dau has the shape of a half-moon, turquoise water, this area is the niche for anyone looking for the serenity, relaxation at the weekend. Besides, it is also the center seafood market where the regular fishing boats gather. Therefore, you could join the fishermen for trading activities and ask them to cook the fresh, juicy seafood.

4. Bai Dai

Bai Dai is to the Northwest of Phu Quoc, with 1.5 kilometers in length. This beach was BBC nominated as one of the 13 most beautiful primitive beaches in the world. The lack of facility and humans intervention incidentally became the advantage of this beach since it is the ideal spot for anyone seeking peace and escaping from the hustling and bustling of the town. Likewise, outdoor activities such as snorkeling, kayaking, fishing are all available in this area.

5. Bai Thom

Bai Thom is far off the center, about 35 kilometers. The landscape of Bai Thom is magnificent and it is an appropriate spot for anyone looking for the stunning picture. However, you need to remember that the beach in Bai Thom is not suitable for bathing due to its shallow water and intricate offshore reefs. Because it is the distant area on Phu Quoc, you need to rent motorbikes from locals with only 100.000 to 150.000 Vietnam Dong per day ( 5-7$). Also, you can participate in self-catching activities and enjoy your accomplishments right at the spot.

6. Bai Truong

Bai Truong is on Tran Hung Dao street, along the coastline of Southwest of Phu Quoc, “Truong” in English is endless, this beach stretches up to 20 kilometers and is nominated as the longest beach in Vietnam. The coastline of this area runs along with the famous route “ Tran Hung Dao”, the most expensive route that mainly focuses on plans regarding real estate, this is why most visitors choose to stay in resorts, hotels nearby. If you travel by airplane, it is quite convenient since Bai Truong is close to the Phu Quoc airport. Apart from bathing, you could also visit the pearl farms on Bai Truong

7. Bai Vong

Bai Vong is 6.7 kilometers away from Phu Quoc airport, located in Ham Ninh fishing village. This spot is particularly known for the wild, charming beauty. Bai Vong is also famous for the Bai Vong harbor which was inaugurated in 2003. The naturally exceptional beauty of Bai Vong has been chosen as plans regarding golf courses in 2020.

8. Bai Ong Lang

Bai Ong Lang is the most famous area for its position to enjoy the sunrise, the best time to visit Bai Ong Lang is from Nove mber to April. From Duong Dong town, follow the North of the Island about 4.5 kilometers, you would see lots of signs direct the Bai Ong Lan, otherwise, you could also use GPS (Google maps) for direction. The water of this area has the crystal colour, serene waves. There are also the reefs that are the shelter for marine species. Snorkeling is available, you could combine with coral-watching, the most common activity in this area. There are a few diners, restaurants in adjacent areas so that you can have a lovely meal on the beach and rent diving suits, swimming goggles if you wish to. Bai Ong Lan is particularly spacious, there is a grassland that stretches up to hundreds of meters so that you can build a tent, hold a barbecue party with family and friends

9. Bai Rach Vem- The Kingdom of starfish

This area used to be the residence of Cambodian refugees. There is are small, charming fishing village named Rach Vem. Bai Rach Vem is also called “ the Kingdom of starfish” because from March to April, you would witness dozens of starfishes lie on the beach. Check-in Rach Vem at the right time of the year, you would be able to take the lovely photos along with the starfishes.

10. Bai Vung Bau

Bai Vung Bau is in the Northwest of Phu Quoc, the hidden gem of the Island, lies between Bai Ong Lang and Bai Dai. Bai Vung Bau is particularly quiet and spacious which is suitable for family and team building activities. Besides, kayaking and swimming are available.

11. Bai Khem

Located to the South of Phu Quoc, 25 kilometers away from Duong Dong town. Although this area is not as spacious as Bai Sao and Bai Dai, this beach is attractive due to white, creamy sand, along with the various shapes rocks. The crystal blue colored water reflects the luminous light from the sun, all to make the glamorous scenery. The ambiance on Bai Khai is quiet, serene which is suitable for anyone escaping from the crowded Duong Dong. Last year, Bai Khem was nominated as top 50 most beautiful beaches on  the planet by Travel Inc Flight Network (Canada) from the survey to 1.200 journalists, travel bloggers.

12. Bai Ba Keo

This beach is right at the center of Phu Quoc Island, it is mostly favored by foreign tourists since the advantageous location. Bai Ba Keo is also an area where focuses most resorts and hotels with different standards. Apart from bathing, kayaking, enjoying the sightseeing of sunrise is also the favorite activity and strongly suggested by the locals.

13. Bai Cua Can

This place is the cross between Cua Can River mouth and the ocean. There is little interference of human beings, so you could adopt this area as a shelter for a few days by booking some adjacent hotels and resorts. Another option is that if you are interested in fishing activity, you could rent the boat from local fishermen at the river mouth. Besides, kayaking in this area is also available.

14. Things to do on the beaches

As mentioned above, the beauty of each beach on Phu Quoc varies differently. You could choose your favorite  one based on its distinctive attributes. Some of the beaches are suitable for kayaking, so if you are an active, adventurous person make sure that you will not miss them ( Bai Cua Can, Bai Ba Keo, Bai Vung Bau). Besides, a lot more activities such as snorkeling, watching coral reefs (Bai Sao, Bai Dai, Bai Ong Lang) are always available and those are contingent on your preferences.

IV. How to get to Phu Quoc?

1. Airplane

The easiest and convenient way is to travel to Phu Quoc via aircraft. Currently, all the flights from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City   are available. In case you depart from Thailand, China, there are still some direct flights to Phu Quoc.

If you are in Hanoi and to ease to flight ticket, you could choose the flight to Ho Chi Minh City and book the flight ticket to Phu Quoc, whilst you could also visit some attractions in Ho Chi Minh.

2. Ferry

Also, there are several ways to travel to Phu Quoc by sea. the Ferry from few destinations in the south that can be optional and depend on your discretion. Firstly, there is a fast ferry service from Ha Tien or Rach Gia, it is much cheaper than flight ticket, and floating on the sea experience would be much more enjoyable. The price of a fast ferry is about 270.000 Vietnam Dong ( 12$) Besides, you could also pick the slow ferry but only from Ha Tien, the difference in duration between fast ferry and slow ferry is just around an hour. Furthermore, slow ferry is a great option for the ones who want to experience sightseeing more gratifying.

4. Conveyance on the Island

The most well-known vehicles not only on the Island but also in other regions in Vietnam are motorbikes. Whilst traveling on the Island, you could rent from the locals, otherwise, taxi is another option in case you could not drive motorbike competently. Transiting between one Islet to another is now a lot easier since the cable car by SunWorld Group was launched in 2018, cable car on Phu Quoc has become the longest cable car route in the world. Besides, you could also rent motorbikes from locals or catch the taxi.
